Life Drawing Progress

The male life drawing model was drawn with the left hand. I was making progress with the direction i wanted to go to towards the style of the drawings. The woman was drawn with both my right and left hand.

Each drawing is on paper about 23 x 31" made with soft vine charcoal

Life Drawing, Shondra

9.14.2010, Shondra 20 minute pose, opposite hand study 18x24

9.16.2010 Shondra, 20 minute pose, Opposite hand study (larger than 18x24, im not sure the exact size)

I'm happy to see that my opposite hand is making progress with dexterity. The finer details are of course more difficult for me to manage at this point, but i am definitely working towards that goal.

Works in progress

Still practicing with life drawing using the opposite hand. 1 hour 18x24 using charcoal

Here is a clay sculpture that i made of my melting face that i'll cast and mold using wax. It's going to be a candle, but I still need to find candles to melt and pour in.

Sketchbook Stuff

Self Portrait, Copy of a Master

Exercise for class, we were to copy a portrait of a master and put our face in it. It was a lot of fun and i enjoyed trying to replicate the style Picasso painted his in, but it was also difficult implementing my facial structure to the lighting in picasso's portrait. Matching my skin tone to the lighting of Picasso's portrait was also difficult, but it ended up fine.

Impasto Painting, Cherry Pie and Bread

Another class assignment. We were to create an impasto painting of a baked good set up as a still life. Impasto painting is a painting style that involves thickly applied paint where the brush strokes are visible. It was a fun project since I've never done anything Impasto before and I've always wanted to try. Overall, it was a great experience and I learned to work with using the palette knife to apply the paint.

Caravaggio Collage and David sketch

This is a Collage and a Sketch depicting a Caravaggio painting of David holding up Goliath's head. Playing with facial expressions and practicing shading. The Collage was an interesting concept, it's a project for 2d Design class to create an abstract collage of an already existing work. I chose Carvaggio because he's awesome.
